Working closely with centre hosts Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust and regional partners, our Managing Director Professor Lorraine Harper has led a successful bid to establish one of the UK's new NIHR Commercial Research Delivery Centres (CRDCs).

This transformative £7m investment will initiate the Central and North West Midlands CRDC, with the aims of increasing the number of trials in the region, boosting participation from diverse communities, and speeding up the clinical trial process through innovative trial designs.

The CRDC award builds on BHP’s existing project to reduce bureaucracy in clinical trials (see below for further updates).

Reducing bureaucracy in clinical trials - project update

In late 2024, we completed our review of current site set-up processes, highlighting a number of commonalities as well as significant opportunities to align processes further across BHP.

This was followed by a workshop in January, bringing together senior and operational leaders responsible for the set-up of academic clinical trials across BHP, the workshop was an opportunity for attendees to influence the future of clinical research and inform local and national process.
