Provost and Vice-Principal, University of Birmingham
Professor Tim Jones joined the University as Provost and Vice-Principal on 1st September 2016. Tim moved to Birmingham from Warwick, where he held a number of leadership positions, including Interim Provost, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Science, Engineering and Medicine, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research, Knowledge Transfer and Business Engagement and Chair of the Faculty of Science.
As a member of the University Executive Board Tim provides the leadership to deliver the University Strategy. At the operational level he works closely with the Directors of Finance, Human Resources and Planning and the 5 Heads of Colleges in advancing and implementing the annual and three year plans for the University. At the strategic level he works closely with the Registrar and Secretary as well as the Directors of the Corporate Services to develop and deliver our strategic plan.
Among others, Tim chairs the Budget Oversight Group, is a member of the Strategy, Planning and Resources Committee, Council, Senate and a range of other University Committees, and is the University's champion for Athena Swan and equality of opportunity initiatives.
Tim is currently a member of Council at the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council 9EPSRC) and a member of the Science Advisory Council for Wales, and was until recently on the Board of the Alan Turing Institute in London.
