Our upcoming capital development, due to open in 2022, will harness world-leading academic and clinical strengths to accelerate life sciences research, taking innovative new healthcare treatments and technologies from early development to real-life application.
The development – until now known as Birmingham Life Sciences Park – will provide cutting-edge innovation facilities, building on our nationally recognised strengths in healthcare data, genomics medicine and diagnostics, medical technologies and clinical trials.
After consulting with our industry partners, we have concluded on the new name for our development: Birmingham Health Innovation Campus.
This name change reflects our intention to appeal to a wider range of industry partners and collaborators, from medical technologies firms to pharmaceutical companies, and highlights the focus of the development – to rapidly develop new innovations and deploy them to the clinic, in order to positively impact on the health of our citizens.
Our overall vision remains the same: to create a long term and sustainable environment for business, University and NHS to work together; deliver significant societal and economic benefits to the region; commercial and clinical benefits for our partners; and better healthcare outcomes for the wider community.
Birmingham Health Innovation Campus will enable us to deliver key aspects of both the national and local Industrial Strategies, as well as being critical to the region’s recovery post-COVID19. BHIC will create high value jobs, new businesses, and provide the ideal location for inward investment, supported by our recent designation as a Government Life Sciences Opportunity Zone.
As plans for the development and construction gather pace, we look forward to sharing further news very soon.
