Aston University

Aston University has many links with public involvement groups within NHS trusts and charities , covering a variety of health conditions and age groups.

These include the Young Person’s Advisory Group (YPAG) at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, via Community Connexions, the University of Birmingham’s Centre of Precision Rehabilitation for Spinal Pain (CPR Spine) PPIE Group and Pain Registry and the Lived Experience Action Research (LEAR) group at Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Trust.

Contact – For general support and guidance with PPIE, please contact Professor Rachel Shaw, Associate Dean Research, Psychology who can signpost you to the correct person/group to help: r.l.shaw@aston.ac.uk.

In addition to the above, the Aston-specific Aston Research Centre for Health in Ageing (ARCHA) Research Advisory Group (RAG)  can be approached to advise on research prior to setting up a study, to comment on grant applications, and to sit on grant advisory boards or similar activities. The RAG can be approached without ethical consent, but GDPR regulations apply and results cannot be published. The project team should include staff at Aston University who should make the request. Requests to use the RAG should specify the target age group and required numbers.
